Beyond the pale announce re-release of monument in time

2–3 minutes

Beyond The Pale, the rising force of Utrecht’s thrash and death metal underground, have carved a path defined by resilience and unwavering commitment. Formed in 2020 during the turbulence of the global pandemic, the band faced a devastating blow at their very first live performance when guitarist, songwriter and founding member Jeroen van Donselaar tragically passed away. In the aftermath of that loss, the group made a collective decision to continue the work they had begun together, carrying Jeroen’s creative spirit forward by bringing his music to audiences everywhere.

With the addition of former Martyr guitarist Geoffrey Maas, Beyond The Pale pushed ahead and independently issued their debut EP, Monument In Time, in 2024. The release quickly proved that the material deserved a far broader platform. Now, British label Black Metal Archives is set to reintroduce Monument In Time to the world, complete with two bonus tracks that expand and enrich the original vision. This new edition marks a significant milestone for the band and ensures that the songs created with their fallen friend will reach the recognition they have long deserved.

Monument In Time erupts into life with Liberation For The Damned, a fierce opening statement built on razor sharp riffs, instinctive rhythmic interplay and a vocal performance that borders on feral. Fronted by former Altar vocalist Janneke de Rooy, the band delivers a barrage of intensity, from the venomous assault of Payback Is A Bitch to the driving power of first single The Age Of The Pariah. The EP’s dynamic range is further showcased in the brooding introduction and surging momentum of Walk The Plank, a track that captures the band’s ability to balance aggression with atmosphere.

The expanded edition includes the group’s earliest recording, the 2021 single Storm en Drift, as well as a mechanised reimagining of Facts And Figures by Japanese artist Frost, known for his work with Gods Of Decay and Godfrost. Together, the eight tracks form a cohesive and commanding release that reflects the proud lineage of Dutch thrash and death metal while asserting Beyond The Pale’s own identity.

Monument In Time was recorded and mixed at Utrecht’s respected Mass Audio Studios and mastered by Tony Lindgren at Fascination Street Studios in Örebro, Sweden. The result is a sound that feels volatile and alive, with guitars that slice through the mix, a rhythm section that hits with absolute conviction and vocals that channel raw emotion into every phrase.

Black Metal Archives will release the expanded Monument In Time on January 30th. With this new chapter, Beyond The Pale honour Jeroen van Donselaar’s legacy and affirm their place as one of the Netherlands’ most compelling emerging metal acts.
