Dutch black metal trio Doodswens confirm their self-titled second album which will be out on the 17th of April via Svart Records. The new full length makes a powerful return. Doodswens is one of the most striking bands to emerge from the Netherlands in recent years. This release further cements their place within the modern black metal landscape.

Formed in 2017 by drummer and vocalist I., Doodswens later expanded with R. on bass and P. on guitar. The band quickly became a defining presence within the Dutch black metal scene. They are known for performances that feel ceremonial. The shows are confrontational and intensely atmospheric. Their live shows are transformative experiences. They expose whatever the audience brings with them. The shows offer catharsis rather than comfort.

Following tours with Marduk and Gorgoroth, Doodswens have built a dedicated international following. Their name translates to Deathwish. However, in Dutch, the sentiment aligns more closely with Driven By Death. This is also the title of the album’s lead single.

Driven By Death examines the heavy burden of living with a death wish. This feeling is often impossible to articulate to others. Yet the album itself is not a surrender. It is a record about resilience, renewal and the moment a person discovers strength after standing at the edge. Rather than wishing for death, the album reflects the death of the wish.

Speaking about the single, I. describes a moment of clarity during a solitary journey home from an unplanned adventure filled with music and connection. With the road stretching ahead and a tree catching her eye, she realised that the thought of crashing into it brought no fear. Instead, it brought peace. She felt she had lived fully, endured the weight of the grey cloud that had followed her for years and continued to rise again. This realisation that she was driven by death rather than afraid of life became the emotional core of the new album.

Doodswens will be released on CD, digital formats and several vinyl editions, including Cream White, Yellow and Orange (exclusive to Svart Records), a limited Violet pressing and classic Black.
